Euphorbia meloformis (WA Prohibited)

Euphorbia meloformis is a globose to short-columnar succulent species native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa, where it inhabits exposed, rocky slopes in semi-arid conditions. It typically forms a solitary, ball-shaped stem with shallow vertical ribs lined by paired reddish spines. The stem ranges in colour from grey-green to glaucous green and may take on purplish tints under stress. In contrast to some other South African Euphorbias, it does not produce offsetting clumps readily. Yellow-green cyathia are borne near the crown during the growing season, often appearing in small clusters on mature plants.

Care Tips:

  • Light - Requires bright light to full sun; promotes colour and compact shape
  • Water - Water deeply and infrequently; always allow the soil to dry out fully
  • Humidity - Thrives in dry air; avoid high humidity and poor ventilation
  • Media - Use a well-drained cactus mix with added grit or pumice
  • Temperature - Maintain above 10°C; protect from frost and damp conditions
  • Fertiliser - Apply diluted cactus fertiliser during spring and summer
  • Repotting - Repot only when rootbound or when soil becomes compacted

Additional Notes:

  • Known to be toxic
