Cymbidium Magic Bubbles 'Royale'

Cymbidium Magic Bubbles 'Royale' is a selected cultivar from the Magic Bubbles grex, a cross between Cymbidium devonianum and Cymbidium madidum. This combination of species produces a plant with vigorous growth and long, pendulous inflorescences that can carry 20 or more blooms. The flowers of 'Royale' are typically rounded and waxy, coloured in shades of greenish-yellow with red-brown suffusion and a contrasting lip marked with crimson or maroon. Spikes are cascading, making this cultivar particularly well suited to hanging baskets or elevated display.

The plant flowers in late summer through autumn under cultivation, influenced by its hybrid parentage. It inherits the arching, pendulous spikes of Cymbidium devonianum and the warmth-tolerant qualities of Cymbidium madidum, allowing it to adapt to a broader growing range than many cool-growing Cymbidiums.

Care Tips

  • Light: Provide bright, filtered light; a little direct sun in the morning or late afternoon is beneficial.
  • Water: Maintain consistent moisture during active growth; reduce slightly after flowering but avoid drying out completely.
  • Media: Plant in a free-draining Cymbidium mix such as coarse bark with perlite or charcoal, allowing room for cascading spikes.
  • Fertiliser: Feed every 2-3 weeks in growth with a balanced orchid fertiliser; switch to a bloom formulation as spikes form.
  • Temperature: Tolerates intermediate to warm conditions; ideal with nights around 12-15 °C and days up to 28 °C.
  • Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years after flowering, when new growth is starting; use baskets or pots that allow space for spikes to hang freely.
